For adults age 45 and older, periodontitis is the main cause of tooth loss. This condition is also associated with diabetes, respiratory disease, cardiovascular disease, and other chronic health conditions.

One of the most important things a person can do for gums and teeth is to practice good oral hygiene. This takes less than 30 minutes each day and if it becomes part of the daily routine, this time is barely missed.
